COLLECTIVE BARGAINING NEGOTIATIONS 2022
Although an impasse in sector 5 (fuel retailers) prevails, the parties have made substantial progress for the rest of the retail motor industry. The RMI submitted a revised offer to NUMSA and MISA which NUMSA will be considering at its National Executive Committee meeting on 22 October 2022.
NUMSA has indicated satisfaction with the negotiation process, bar sector 5, and undertook not to proceed with the strike on Monday 24 October 2022, that was communicated earlier this month. NUMSA have instead indicated that they will use the 24th of October 2022 to take a further mandate from its membership and it intends to request the attendance from some of its members for that purpose. The RMI encourages Members to allow NUMSA members as far as practically possible to attend meetings on Monday 24 October 2022 in an effort to settle the collective bargaining negotiations and to avoid a strike in the industry. The RMI expects NUMSA to communicate with its members over the course of the weekend and although there might be disruptions at work on Monday, it should not be construed as a strike and rather be seen as an inevitable hurdle toward avoiding a strike.
