National Shutdown 20 March 2023

NATIONAL SHUT DOWN – URGENT NOTICE!

Please take note that there is a certain amount of confusion regarding the national shut down which SAFTU has organised and the EFF hi-jacked.

Attached is the certificate that the SAFTU federation of unions has procured and therefore a ‘no work no pay’ principle for those aligned unions will suffice in the event of your employees belonging to one of these unions. Click here to view the certificate.

The dilemma now sits on what effect the strike will have, as in the past we have had a very limited success on the sec 77 strikes.

The practical problem is that we are sitting with a Monday before a public holiday that on its own creates logistical and practical problems for a lot of employees.

We are of the opinion that the strike will have a limited impact even though the EFF wants to create a situation where they get maximum political mileage out of the day. That being said, we are also of the opinion that we are going to have a massive amount of “stay-aways” only for the mere fact that it’s a “long weekend” and transport will be used as an excuse (even though SANTAGO has come out against the shutdown, view statement from SANTAGO)

The situation in South Africa is getting more and more fluid with certain groupings trying to create an ARAB SPRING scenario, we urge all our employers to assess the situation on Friday the 17th and make an informed decision about limited work, forced leave, substituting Monday for next Saturday etc.

THEREFORE BE SAFE, BE VIGILANT AND STAY ALIVE.
